The goal of the regional WAN is to provide high-speed broadband services to the nine counties the IU consortium serves. Upon receiving the grant in December of 2006, the focus of the project was on creating the physical infrastructure necessary to connect the region.
Once the infrastructure phase was complete, the IUs focused their efforts on implementation and usage. To highlight the next phase of the consortium project, the LEARN acronym has been adopted. LEARN stands for Leading Educational Achievement through the Regional Network.
A wide variety of professional development opportunities are available through the LEARN Consortium (check out our Calendar of Events). Additionally, the IU LEARN team works with various vendors and higher education to develop partnerships that enhance district curriculum using the WAN.
